E-waste, responsible procurement, and renewable energy progress alongside new ESG platform RitaONE advance enterprise-wide sustainability
Hitachi Digital Services today released its FY2025 sustainability impact report. Titled Building Resilience for the Future, the annual study assesses the company’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) progress. Momentum over the past year has resulted in expanded e-waste management efforts; more responsible procurement; increased renewable energy adoption; and a 40% reduction in total Scope 1 and 2 emissions (market-based) relative to its FY2024 base year.
Hitachi Digital Services also introduced RitaONE, a next-generation agentic AI platform that simplifies ESG reporting and delivers actionable sustainability insights. RitaONE captures the experiences gained through the company’s own sustainability journey to help customers address similar challenges. The SaaS platform uses advanced automation and AI to discover, catalog, analyze, and confidently report on ESG initiatives while accounting for global sustainability regulations and enabling data-driven decision-making across the enterprise. Notably, RitaONE earned the Hitachi Lumada Business Award, one of Hitachi’s highest internal recognitions.
Sustainability Landscape
Hitachi Digital Services navigates various challenges and factors to deliver on its sustainability commitments, with the following three being highly influential in FY2025:
- Acceleration of AI adoption and its environmental impacts
- Geopolitical fragmentation and regulatory divergence
- Operational and supply chain resilience
Against this backdrop, Hitachi Digital Services continues to advance sustainability as an integral part of responsible growth – strengthening its transparency, accountability, and ethical practices across operations. Notable progress includes:
- E-waste program expansion: Hitachi Digital Services’ waste management program goals include responsible treatment of waste streams; reduced use of disposables; and increased use of sustainable and recycled products. It also includes a goal to roll out its e-waste strategy to 50% of its offices by FY2030. The company is five years ahead of schedule, having expanded its e-waste program to 56% of offices in FY2025, which represents an 18% year-over-year increase. This expansion supports responsible disposal of IT assets, certified data destruction and second-life repurposing of retired equipment across more of the company’s global offices.
- GHG emissions management and reduction: Hitachi Digital Services continued evolving its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction strategy. In FY2025, the company achieved a 40% reduction in total Scope 1 and 2 emissions (market-based) relative to its FY2024 base year, keeping it on track for carbon neutrality by FY2030. The company also increased procurement of renewable energy which now accounts for 47% of its global electricity consumption, an 8% increase over FY2024.
- Responsible procurement: Ensuring supply chain partners uphold the highest ethical standards regarding sustainability, security, diversity, and human rights is paramount. Hitachi Digital Services set goals to maintain supplier engagement on ESG surveys and audits assessing modern slavery risks. In FY2025, the company conducted assessments on suppliers representing the top 80% of spend while completing two on-site audits. These assessment and outreach activities support the company’s long-term goal of engaging and educating suppliers representing 90% of the active supplier spend on sustainability-related topics.
As announced earlier this year, Hitachi Digital Services’ continued progress in defining and deploying robust ESG policies and practices contributed to the company earning an EcoVadis Silver Medal. EcoVadis placed Hitachi Digital Services in the 94th percentile, a rare distinction for a company’s first fully independent submission.

We are doing just that by applying at scale the strategies and solutions we know work for us. Through innovation, engineering excellence, and collaboration, we are building more resilient businesses, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future.”
Courtney Hadden, Sustainability Director, Hitachi Digital Services: “The momentum around our sustainability commitments builds year over year. We’re strengthening the foundation that supports our organization’s responsible growth. And that foundation positions us well for the future as it gives us the ability to remain adaptable to changing disclosure and customer requirements. But, perhaps most importantly, we are fulfilling our own vision of running a transparent, ethical company that takes human and environmental impact into account across all we do. And that is a success we are truly proud of.”
